All my thoughts on Dishwalla

I think that music is just an easy topic. It comes up a lot 'cause it's all over the place; In the car, at work, you listen to it at home, they play it in the mall, even in elevators. When asked what my favorite bands are, I'm always very quick to answer "Dishwalla, Bush, and Tonic." And a lot of people find it odd that I could call Dishwalla my favorite band when they only have eleven songs out.

The coolest part about Dishwalla is that nothing they do is the same. From the light sound of Give, to the kick-ass riffs of Charlie Brown's Parents, to the driving sounds of Explode, Dishwalla covers everything! From alcoholism, to the confusion of a young boy as he's being told about about God, to the crush, one JR Richards has had on Miss Emma Peel (from The Avengers) since he was eight-years-old.

When asked about he he would describe his band's sound, JR Richard's (that gorgeous lead singer) is stumped. "I know!" He finally says, "Alice in James!" he laughs it off before explaining... "Some dude once said we were a cross between Alice in Chains and Rick James, I think he had something there."

Whatever JR. :~)

But seriously, It's great to see so many people aprove of them, and it's great to see people actually respect them as an alternative band. JR's lyrics mixed with the rest of the band's diverse styles make Dishwalla smart and cool. And finally, when you mix in the fact that they're all gorgeous, I think we're looking at another Bush ladies and gentlemen. So does that mean that JR gets his very own stalker now?

Dishwalla

Pet Your Friends

This is an incredible CD. It's rare to find such original music and complexity of sound on a debut release. "Pet Your Friends" is definitely one of the pleasant surprises of 1996. Dishwalla combines powerful harmonic vocals (at times Pearl Jam-esque), driving rythms, and new-formed layers of guitar and synth into a highly acclaimed CD and a cult following. Best tracks include "Haze" (alluring, inventive), "Give" (simply the the most diverse track on the CD), and "Moisture" (driving). They are really starting toget a lot of "alternative" rock airplay (ironic, that in playing Dishwalla, the radio stations are actually living up to their "alternative" label), so it's likely that you've heard this band. No matter what, it's time to get more familiar with a band that's bound to be around for a long time to come.
